In our laboratory, we aim to understand and control quantum-mechanical phenomena arising from the interaction among quantum mechanical particles. To achieve this goal, we exploit ultracold atoms trapped by lasers, a versatile platform for exploring quantum phenomena. By manipulating both the motion and internal states of the atoms, we quantum-engineer the system's Hamiltonians to experimentally solve problems that are intractable even with state-of-the-art computers. In addition, through the development of experimental techniques, we aim to push the frontiers of quantum science and technology, all by harnessing the power of ‘laser-cooled atoms’.
